In Minecraft, you can enchant a sword with a number of different enchantments. Each enchantment has a name and ID value assigned to it. You can use these enchantment values in the /enchant command.
Here is a list of sword enchantments for the latest version of Minecraft Java Edition (PC/Mac).
The Protection enchantment was nerfed alongside Sharpness, and the end result is that a single attack from a Sharp V diamond sword against full Prot IV diamond armor is still greater than it was in 1.8. At least, I think the current 1.08 dmg per hit is pretty significant. The attack damage of a diamond sword is +7 for a total base damage of 8. Sharpness adds 1.25 damage for each level, for a total +6.25 damage for Sharpness V. This comes out to a grand total of 14.25 damage, or 7.125 hearts per hit. Leather armor blocks 28% of damage, so each attack will result in 10.26 damage to the player, or 5.13 hearts.
Definitions
Small thing you might wanna include. Axes swing faster than swords. Also for the end part were you say what=what, since sharp = + 1.25 a diamond axe with sharp 1 would be better than a diamond sword. EDIT: I feel like a derp. Other guys are correct.
Example of how to Enchant a Sword
You can enchant a sword that you are holding by using the /enchant command.
For example, you can use the /enchant command to enchant the sword that the player called DigMinecraft is holding with Sharpness V.

Both commands would result in the sword held by DigMinecraft to be enchanted with Sharpness V. This enchantment would significantly increase the attack damage of the sword.
